Allegheny Valley Walk for Hunger seeks participants

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Walk for Hunger will begin at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the parking lot of Heights Plaza in Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. near the UPMC Urgent Care. Participants are asked to bring one can of food or a non-perishable item.

Walkers will proceed through Natrona Heights and Brackenridge back to Natrona Heights. Walkers who collect between $100 and $199 will receive a free bowling pass. Those who collect $200 or more will receive two bowling passes. Walkers can participate without collecting pledges for $15. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Proceeds benefit the Association of Churches food bank, the mass food drive-thru and emergency hunger needs.

NK Salvation Army offering holiday support

The New Kensington Salvation Army will accept applications in-person by appointment for assistance for holiday gifts for children 13 and younger and Project Bundle Up coats, boots, hats and gloves for children younger than 18 and seniors 62 and over at the center, 255 Third St.

Appointments will be available Sept. 23 to 26, Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 and Oct. 14 to 17. Applications will be accepted on a first-come and most-need basis. Bring identification, proof of household income and residence, children’s birth certificates and three gift ideas for each child.
