Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is taking some heat on social media for sharing a photo in support of a new book by American Federation of Teachers (AFT) chief Randi Weingarten -- and implying her political adversaries are "fascists."

The book, which is entitled "Why Fascists Fear Teachers: Public Education and the Future of Democracy," was published Tuesday.

Congratulations to my friend on ‘Why Fascists Fear Teachers," Clinton wrote on X. "From banning books to controlling curriculum, authoritarians go after public education because it's a cornerstone of democracy."
Randi's new book is a critical read for this moment," she added.

The post includes a photo of Weingarten smiling while holding a copy of the book.

Now, Clinton is getting some backlash, with multiple people calling her out.

RNC Research, an X account managed by the Republican National Committee, called the post "GROSS."

Democrats Hillary Clinton and Randi Weingarten are still suggesting Republicans are 'fascists," according to the post. "They really can’t help themselves can they?"

Others shared similar sentiments, including Republican communicator Matt Whitlock. He implied Clinton's post, as well as the timing of the book's publication, were insensitive, as both came soon after the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk.

It's been one week since Charlie Kirk was murdered by a lunatic who wrote about 'fascists' on shell casings," Whitlock wrote on X. "Now Randi Weingarten has a new book arguing everyone who disagrees with her views on public education -- which have destroyed public education in America -- is a fascist."

Corey A. DeAngelis, an advocate for school choice, agreed. He released a book on school choice called "The Parent Revolution" in 2024.

Hillary Clinton and Randi Weingarten are going full speed ahead with this disgusting rhetoric right after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Sick people," he wrote.

In a few follow up posts, DeAngelis said Weingarten "is now officially going to bat for the deranged teachers celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk."

On Thursday, Weingarten shared a news release in response to people "targeting" educators in wake of Kirk's death.

She said while "no one should celebrate another person's murder," the Trump administration and others have used Kirk's assassination "to encourage the doxxing, censorship and firing of people for their opinions -- including educators’ private opinions shared during their personal time."

Conservatives, too, are warning against going down this dangerous road," she wrote. "They know this sends the absolute wrong message to chill speech -- one of the most important freedoms in our country. Americans must be able to exercise their First Amendment rights in their personal lives, regardless of whether we agree or disagree with them. None of us who values freedom should ever want to relinquish that right. We once again are calling for an end to the hate and the smears. We must find ways to tone down the rhetoric and disagree civilly."
